The Timmins and District Hospital Foundation (TADHF) received a vital boost recently.

As the Porcupine Miners Memorial committee prepares to close its books, it donated $18,000 to the foundation. According to a news release, it's in memory of the 600 miners who have died in the Porcupine Camp mines since 1911.

The money will be used to buy four vital sign monitors.

"We make this contribution today at the site of the Porcupine Miners Memorial, as a final gesture for the committee that has spent 20 years ensuring a visible marker will stand in Timmins to honour our late miners that lost their lives while providing for their families and for the families that survived them courageously," said Lynda Geddes, who is the chairperson of the miners' memorial committee.
