A celebration of Indigenous culture and craft is being held this weekend.
There are a number of events Saturday to kick off Treaty Week in Timmins.
Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. the Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre and the Mennonite Central Committee are hosting Niska Noel at the museum. It features more than a dozen Indigenous artists and crafters, and there will be live demonstrations for making a tamarack bird, carving, beading, and bannock cooking.
The Thunder Creek Singers will also be performing songs throughout the day.
At 1 p.m., the mural painted by Shaun Hedican and local young artitsts will be unveilled. Artwork from an art workshop for Indigenous youth will also be on display.
Next week, the museum has more events planned for Treaty Week.
Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. there is a screening of the film Trick or Treaty. Nov. 6 and 9 there are dreamcatcher workshops. To register, call 705-360-2617.
