NEWS RELEASE
NORTHEASTERN CATHOLIC DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
*****************************
The Northeastern Catholic District School Board of Trustees would like to welcome Michaela Beach, a grade 12 student at O’Gorman High School as the new student Board of Trustee representative for the 2014-2015 school year.
The following are Michaela’s answers to some questions asked by Andrew Marks, NCDSB Community Relations Officer.
Why did you want to become the NCDSB Student Trustee Representative?
As a student heavily involved in the extra-curricula’s in our school, especially in student council, I hoped to be a good representation of the student voice at the board level. I also hoped to gain more experience from student council and by becoming student trustee, I am able to meet and interact with board members, work on my public speaking and presentation skills and bring forth student successes, issues and events to the board.
What do you like the most about O’Gorman High School?
My favourite part of O’Gorman is definitely the family aspect. There’s a place for everyone, and I honestly really enjoy going to school and the people in it. There’s so many past students who still feel like they have a home here and that’s something I really like about the school, and I’m glad to be part of it. After having attended seven schools in my life, I truly feel like I fit in at O’Gorman.
Why is Catholic Education important?
To me, catholic education is important because I look to God at times of uncertainty in life. I’m currently a stressed out university applicant worried about grades, tuition and financial costs, and acceptance. One of the few things keeping me confident in my decisions is knowing that God will carry me through the times of difficulty, uncertainty and trouble. I think this value is something that a lot of students can benefit from because school can be a very stressful time for a lot of students from social aspects to athletic and academic, and having faith in your life can be very beneficial.
What is your favourite hobby?
Athletics are probably my favourite hobby. I enjoy running, soccer and curling within the school as well as doing unorganized sports outside of school like pick-up soccer and cycling.
What are your Future educational plans?
I plan on attending university for a Bachelor of Social Science in Criminology and a minor in Psychology.
Rick Brassard, Trustee Chair commented, “The Board of Trustees would like to welcome Michaela Beach to our table. We really look forward to hearing about high school life every month and learning about the student’s activities and events taking place within our Catholic high school.”
