A market this weekend is helping to raise money for Kamiskotia Snow Resort.

The KAM Home and Lifestyle Market is being held Sunday, Oct. 29 and will feature more than 30 makers and vendors at the Timmins ski hill's chalet.

According to Kamiskotia board president Rick Rusenstrom, fundraisers "help offset our operational expenses incurred during the eight months Kam is not generating revenue."

"Off-season expenses include hydro, taxes, insurance, lift mechanic salary, maintenance work for four lifts and two snow groomers and brush cutting the ski runs are some of the main expenses Kam incurs during the off season," he explained.

He added that while other ski hills in the region have one lift to maintain, Kamiskotia has four, which requires more employees to operate, along with inspection costs.

This year, the not-for-profit organization has opened its doors to new year-round opportunities.

“This past summer our main chalet was booked with eight weddings as well as few business meetings, which really helps offset our summer operational cost,” Rusenstrom said.

Kamiskotia wedding and events specialist Stephanie Vien said they are always looking for “new and exciting ideas for fundraisers.”

The KAM Home and Lifestyle event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the chalet, 5050 Kamiskotia Rd. The cost to enter is a donation to the ski hill. The first 25 people through the door will receive a swag bag with donations from the participating vendors.

Vien said people can look forward to “five hours of non-stop interaction, one-on-one question and answers, along with products from our local northern community.”

The market is the first special event of the season.

Nov. 11 is the inaugural Timmins Snow Show, which will feature a ski swap from noon to 4 p.m. From 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. local band Drivyn will be playing.
