A new buffet gives Timmins residents another taste of India.
Sukdev's grand opening was on Wednesday, July 3, and its menu of paneer, curries, and samosas is already drawing crowds at the 205 Pine St. South location.
“Since that first day, it’s been a lot of love,” said franchise owner Lovepreet Sahota. “It’s been crazy!”
He said he and his wife looked at many options for starting a business, but it was her dream to open a restaurant, and the Sukdev franchise seemed like a good fit for them.
“We liked their kinds of tastes,” said Sahota.
Sukdev is a franchise with locations across Northern Ontario, including Espanola, Sudbury, Manitoulin, North Bay, and Sault Ste. Marie.
The Pine Street location was a lucky find for the business, said Sahota.
“Fortunately, we got this, and it was a restaurant space before,” he said. “We had to change a few things that are special for an Indian restaurant, but we got a good place here.”
Sahota said the buffet's dishes are a great starting point for anyone who hasn’t had Indian food before or isn’t a fan of spicy food.
“My favorite dish is chicken curry,” he said. “For the buffet, we have milder tastes, so it’s for everyone, and most people like it.”
Sukdev’s lunch buffet runs on Thursdays and Fridays from noon to 2 p.m., and their dinner buffet opens at 4 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays until 8 p.m.
The restaurant has an eat-in and take-out menu as well. The menu is on their website.
