TIMMINS - There's a good development on the housing front.

On Tuesday, Timmins council lifted a holding provision on a MacLean Drive property where a developer is aiming to build 45 new units.

The property is north of Blahey Court and was rezoned to allow for a multi-unit development in 2013. Because it's had a municipal holding provision on it, the site couldn't be developed.

"What was holding it up was the individual had to indicate how the proposed development be serviced," director Scott Tam told council.

The area the property is located in has city sewage and water services and the developer has given a detailed plan to city staff.

In the past decade, the plan for the property has changed.

The owner wants to divide the lot into two.

The hope with that is to divide the property into two lots, with each fronting on MacLean Drive. The south property would be a nine-unit townhouse building developed first, with the north lot being for the future development of 30, two-bedroom apartments.

The item is on the Jan. 20 committee of adjustment meeting agenda.
