The Urban Park Farmers' Market runs on Third Avenue between Pine and Balsam every Thursday.

A Timmins mine continues to help local residents put fresh food on the table.

Newmont Porcupine has donated $5,000 to the eighth annual Farm to Fork market dollar program. The campaign helps provide local residents and families access to local fresh produce at the Urban Park Market downtown and the Mountjoy Farmers' Market.

“We want to give people more of an opportunity to access to fresh, healthy and local food,”  said Kelsey MacDonnell, Anti-Hunger Coalition Timmins (ACT) executive director, in a news release.

“It’s an incredibly empowering  program because people get to actually come and buy what they need most.”

For the program, people can buy vouchers and a designated amount of the bundle is donated back to local food programs.

Trisha Turner, Cochrane District Social Planning Council executive director, is amazed at how much the program has grown and the impact it's had on residents and farmers.

"It strengthens community food security and supports local businesses," she said.

Market dollars can be bought at the Urban Park, which runs every Thursday on Third Avenue downtown Timmins.
