THUNDER BAY — The Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, the largest First Nations police service in Canada, has quietly relocated its headquarters in Thunder Bay.

Previously based in an office building at 309 Court St. S., NAPS is now operating out of an office complex at 973 Balmoral St., near the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway.

The new headquarters is not yet open to the public.

There was no formal announcement about the change, and officials have declined a request from Dougall Media for an interview at this time.

NAPS serves 34 First Nations communities in Northern Ontario from the Quebec border to the Manitoba border and up to Hudson Bay.

Established in 1994, it employs over 230 uniform officers and 40 civilians.

NAPS is governed by its own police services board consisting of a representative of each Nishnawbe Aski Nation Tribal Council.

In addition to the headquarters in Thunder Bay, it has regional offices in Cochrane and Sioux Lookout.
