CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF KAPUSKASING

The recent municipal improvements at the Murdoch sliding hill in Kapuskasinghas resulted in the Town of Kapuskasing offering  a larger and improved sliding hill for residents to enjoy.

Mayor Alan Spacek is pleased with the work undertaken and the future plans to incorporate a structure which can be utilized to put on skates or warm up.

"Some communities are evaluating the activity of tobogganing and we are fortunate to have a prime location for the activity.  The Murdoch Hill has always been a popular hub for winter activity and will continue to be for Kapuskasing residents", said Mayor Spacek. "What better way to enjoy a winter day than to get out, have some fun with friends or family and get a little physical activity at the same time."

The improvements to date includes making the sliding area larger and safer for the numerous users that frequent the hill at any given time.

The hill has lighting and is open until 11 p.m. every night.

In 2015 improvements for parking will be undertaken.

"The community popularity of the hill is increasingly evident and has gained the partnership of Carey Oreskovich of Big "0" Construction who has approached the municipality for permission to construct a shelter at the site for winter utilization," said Mayor Spacek. 'The Municipality certainly appreciates this contribution and the construction proposal will be shared at the next
meeting of Council. I understand the shelter could possibly be completed this year."

Don't let the long winter get you down, come enjoy one of our winter gems free for all to use.
