TIMMINS - Safety concerns and vandalism are among the key reasons there won't be a trailer at the city's outdoor skating path this winter.

While the City of Timmins plans to install the path at Hollinger Park, the Timmins Community Park Association's (TCPA) trailer for people to borrow skates or put on their gear won't be open. The short skating season — it was less than three weeks last winter — is also a factor.

“With current situations, we cannot guarantee the security of our trailer and its contents as we have experienced issues of vandalism in the past few years,” said TCPA president Mark Rogers in a news release, “nor can we guarantee the safety of users and our volunteers.”

The TCPA formed in 2019 to promote safe, healthy activities throughout the year.

In the news release, the group says it's using the break to re-evaluate what it does, look at different options and restructure events.

"This could potentially be a move to more park activities, for example, once a month throughout the entire year," reads the statement,
