TIMMINS - With winter giving spring a stormy welcome, there are closures and delays across the region.
The snowstorm is expected to taper off this afternoon. By the end, Environment Canada says the total snowfall is expected to be 20 to 40 centimetres.
Here's what we know has been affected:
- Canada Post has issued a red service delivery alert, which suspends delivery for the day. Services will restart when the conditions improve.
- The German Township landfill in the Connaught area is closed.
- Waste and recycling normally picked up on Thursday will not be done on Friday, March 21.
- Northern College campuses in Timmins, Kirkland Lake and Haileybury have limited openings. Staff and students aren't required to go to the campus and people who can work remotely are expected to do so. The East End Family Health Team and daycare are open.
- Kirkland Lake's council meeting scheduled for tonight is postponed a week.
- The Matheson municipal office and all landfill sites are closed.
- Waste pickup in Matheson, Ramore, Val Gagné and Holtyre is cancelled. It's rescheduled for Saturday, March 22.
School buses in all areas but Hearst are cancelled.
