In consultation with the Porcupine Health unit, the City of Timmins decided at 6pm January 28th to issue a precautionary Boil Water Advisory for the part of the Timmins Water Distribution system east of Bristol Road and High way 101. This area was required to be shut off to repair a watermain break. This area serves approximately 3000 people with approximately 400 homes.

This precautionary BWA was issued only because of the size of the area that was required to be shut down to fix the watermain break.

The watermain break near Highway 101 and Bristol road was repaired and put back into operation at approximately 9 pm last night. Hydrants near the break and at the extremities of the system were flushed the residual chlorine levels were taken.

The Chlorine residual levels were well within regulatory requirements.

Samples are being sent to the cities accredited lab and we will have bacteriological results for these samples Friday and Saturday. This is our normal protocol for breaks and the Health Unit agree with this procedure. As soon as the bacteriological test results are available the City of Timmins will be in touch with the Health Unit to review the need to continue the boil water advisory.
