TIMMINS - The provincial NDP leader is making stop in Timmins this week.

Marit Stiles is in Timmins on Thursday (Jan. 16) to make an announcement with former MPP Gilles Bison.

The Ontario NDP leader was last in town in 2023.

The Timmins NDP riding association's nomination meeting is also tomorrow when they'll name their candidate for the next provincial election.

While Ontario's next election is slated for June 2026, Premier Doug Ford has hinted that people will head to the polls early.

Stiles' visit to Timmins further fuels speculation that a provincial election is on the way.

The NDP had a stronghold in the riding for three decades. In the 2022 election, Progressive Conservative George Pirie won the seat. Pirie, who is also the Minister of Mines, is seeking re-election.
