(SOUTH PORCUPINE) – An officer with the South Porcupine Ontario Provincial Police has arrested and charged a local man for assault and being intoxicated in public during the early evening hours of November 13th, on Algonquin Blvd in Timmins.
While en route to his assigned patrol area, an OPP officer located a man who was allegedly intoxicated and walking down the median of Algonquin Blvd. between eastbound and west bound traffic.
The man was interviewed at the roadside and became belligerent and assaultive with the OPP officer. Based on observations made by the OPP officer, the man was arrested and taken to the South Porcupine OPP detachment with the assistance of the Timmins Police Service.
As a result of the event, James MONGRAIN, 39, of Timmins, has been charged with:
- Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
- Being Intoxicated While In Public contrary to the Liquor Licence Act
MONGRAIN has been released from police custody with a first appearance court date of January 28th, 2014 at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
