With the Civic Holiday long weekend, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is reminding people to take extreme caution on the water.
The company issued an advisory to remind people the waterways near OPG facilities are not safe for recreation.
"Your safety is of the utmost importance to us at OPG. We ask that you take great care when enjoying yourselves in and around waterways this weekend," said Mike Martelli, OPG president of renewable energy, in a news release. "Whether you're boating, swimming or fishing, conditions can change quickly and without warning."
OPG has 66 hydroelectric stations and 241 dams on 24 river systems.
According to the company, some people are disregarding signs and barriers at the sites and OPP has laid charges.
