A record number of student jobs are available through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
In Timmins-James Bay, MP Charlie Angus says the region is getting over $1.5 million to create 526 jobs across the riding, with projects in Timmins, Englehart, Kirkland Lake, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Matheson, Attawapiskat and more.
“We have been doing very well over the last number of years with the Canada Summer Jobs program, but this year we will be able to hire a record number of students,” said Angus in a news release.
The funding helps businesses, non-profit organizations and community groups that rely on hiring summer students.
Angus said it will also stimulate economic development.
"With the large amount of dollars received this year, we can help many businesses get on their feet after the damaging impacts of COVID. As for the students – this will give them badly-needed work experience and contacts for future opportunities," he said.
