The relaunch of a popular program was a page-turner.
This weekend, the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program relaunched at the Timmins Public Library. It was held on Family Literacy Day.
One of the highlights of the day's activities was a special book reading by Timmins Mayor Michelle Boileau.
“Reading together, in both French and English, is one of the best parts of my day,” said Boileau in a news release before the event. “It lets me practice mindfulness and connect with my daughter, while we work on her reading and language skills. It’s really rewarding.”
The revamped 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten offers more interactive and engaging ways for children to track their reading progress. There is hands-on story tracking and a new themed adventure is introduced every 100 books.
Ahead of the event, the mayor put together a reading list. Her suggestions are:
- Je t'aime comme by Marion Dane Bauer
- Tu Peux by Elise Gravel
- Pourquoi j'aime ma maman by Daniel Howarth
- Une patate à velo by Elise Gravel
- Pourquoi j'aime mon papa by Daniel Howarth
- The Very Noisy Bear by Nick Bland
- Life is Better With Friends by Micol Ostow
- Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae
- A Forest in the City by Andrea Curtis
- Oh the Places You'll Go by Dr. Suess
- P'tit Loup ne veut pas dormir by Orianne Lalleman
All of the books are available to borrow at the Timmins Public Library.
