People in Timmins lined up for their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine today.
The first public walk-in clinic in Timmins opened early today after about 40 people lined up ahead of the scheduled 1 p.m. opening.
The large outdoor clinic in the Food Basics parking lot runs until 7 p.m. and is kicking off a weekend COVID-19 vaccination blitz in the city.
“We’re thinking outside of the box and trying to be more accessible to all of our residents. We’re really just trying to make getting a vaccine easy so if you’re here for essential purposes to get your groceries, you can come by with your family and we’ll immunize everybody age 12 and older who consents,” said Kendra Brunet, Porcupine Health Unit program manager.
As part of the blitz, another walk-in clinic is being held tomorrow at the Timmins Native Friendship Centre on Kirby Avenue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Mass clinics requiring appointments are also part of the blitz. They are being held:
Saturday, May 22
- Porcupine - Whitney Arena, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Sunday, May 23
- Timmins - Mountjoy Arena, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Monday, May 24
- Timmins - Mountjoy Arena, noon - 8 p.m.
All of the clinics this weekend are using the Pfizer vaccine and are open to people 12 years and up. It is for first doses only.
