Ontario is honouring four employers for their exceptional contributions toward training the province's next generation of skilled workers.

The annual Minister's Awards for Apprenticeship Training celebrate employers that show leadership in training apprentices, support the apprenticeship training system, and promote careers in the skilled trades. The 2013 winners are:

  • ArcelorMittal Dofasco, Hamilton
  • Massiv Die-Form, Brampton
  • Porcupine Trailers, Inc., Timmins
  • Ron Finkle Electrical Services, Belleville
Supporting a strong apprenticeship system that creates jobs and boosts the province's economy is part of the Ontario government's plan to invest in people, invest in modern infrastructure, and support a dynamic and innovative business climate.

  • Since 2002-03, the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program has helped about 25,000 high school students per year earn cooperative education credits through work placements in the skilled trades.
  • There are more than 120,000 apprentices learning a skilled trade today — 60,000 more than in 2002-03.
  • New annual apprenticeship registrations have grown to over 30,000 in 2012-13 — up from 17,100 in 2002-03.
