Potential COVID exposure on Timmins flight

People on an April 1 flight into Timmins may have been exposed to COVID-19.

An air travel advisory has been issued for the Thursday, April 1 Air Canada flight AC8289 from Toronto to Timmins. It's for the 6:55 p.m. departure. 

Passengers who sat in rows one to four must self-isolate immediately and call their local public health unit, according to the Porcupine Health Unit.

Other people on the flight should self-monitor. If any COVID-19 symptoms are experienced, self-isolate at home and call the Porcupine Health Unit at 705-267-1181 or your local health unit.

In Timmins, there is also a previously announced high-risk exposure advisory for people who were at Restaurant Nadeau March 27 from noon to 1 p.m. People who were at the restaurant during that time are asked to self-isolate for 14 days, ending Saturday, April 10.

Typical COVID-19 symptoms are:

  • fever
  • new or worsening cough
  • shortness of breath 
  • loss of sense of smell or taste 
  • sore throat or hoarse voice 
  • difficulty swallowing 
  • runny nose or nasal congestion 
  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, adbominal pain 

Atypical symptoms are:

  • unexplained fatigue or malaise 
  • muscle aches
  • delirium
  • unexplained or increased number of falls 
  • acute functional decline 
  • exacerbation of current chronic conditions 
  • chills 
  • headaches 
  • croup 
  • conjuctivitis

Today. three new cases of the virus were reported in the Porcupine Health Unit region — two in Timmins and one in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls.

To date, there have been 370 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. There are 20 known active cases — 17 in Timmins, two in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, one in the Kapuskasing area, and one in the area of Hearst, Hornepayne.

So far this month, nine new cases have been confirmed in the area. Five United Kingdom (B.1.1.7) variants have also been reported.

To curb the spread of the virus a provincial shutdown is place for at least four weeks.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne.
