TIMMINS - Adding new trucks to the city's fleet has a slightly lower price tag than anticipated.

The City of Timmins is buying six three-quarter-ton 4x4 work trucks from Timmins Garage for $417,150. The purchase was part of the 2024 budget, which included $480,000 for it.

"This request to purchase the trucks will result in the city not continuing to rent similarly equipped trucks. All these trucks will be placed into service at either one of the two public works yards," Gord Deacon, manager of purchasing and fleet, told council.

He said the city received seven submissions for the tender and all of them were compliant.

While using rental trucks wasn't the city's "desired course of action", Deacon's report says they were forced to rent due to vehicle shortages.

Attempts by the city to buy the rental vehicles were also not successful.

"We are thankful to report that supply chain issues are getting much better in regard to certain product lines and light vehicles are one of them," he wrote.

The expected delivery time for vehicles is four to five months.

Timmins council approved the purchase at its Dec. 10 meeting.
