TIMMINS - A local organization dedicated to supporting residential school survivors has been nominated for a national business award.
Quilts for Survivors has been nominated for the 2024 CanadianSME National Business Awards. The awards, established in 2019, recognize the contributions of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to Canada’s economy and communities.
Open to businesses with up to 500 employees, the awards aim to celebrate innovation, business growth, and community involvement.
Quilts for Survivors focuses on creating handmade quilts as a gesture of comfort and acknowledgement for survivors of residential schools. The organization’s work aligns with the awards’ emphasis on community impact.
The Timmins-based not-for-profit said it's "honoured to be nominated."
A panel of judges will evaluate nominees based on several criteria, including innovation, economic contributions and community engagement.
The winners will be announced during the CanadianSME National Business Awards ceremony. The date of the ceremony has not yet been released. Winners will receive a trophy, certificate, and national recognition for their efforts.
The deadline to apply or nominate a business for the awards is Jan. 31, 2025.
