MOOSONEE - The Moosonee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is pleased to partner with the Ontario Northland Railway (ONR), and the Northern Store on a donation project geared towards supporting youth in the isolated community of Attawapiskat.
A community group from southern Ontario collected several hockey bags of new and gently used hockey equipment that included warm clothing, sticks and water bottles. With the unique geographic location of the community several organizations have had to step up to help transport the important goods.
Ground transportation brought the goods to Cochrane where ONR took over and provided free shipping up the 172 miles of track to Moosonee. From there the OPP picked up the goods and ensured the safe delivery to the Moosonee airport.
The Northern Store then generously provided free transportation by air for the final leg of the journey. When the goods arrived in Attawapiskat they were donated to the Vezina High School where they will now be distributed as needed.
