NORTHERN ONTARIO JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE

A four-goal barrage in the back half of the first period sent the Timmins Rock on their way to a convincing 9-1 victory over the Iroquois Falls in a penalty-filled Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Sunday at McIntyre Arena.
Timmins began the scoring midway through the initial frame, while on the power play, as Alexis Tremblay spun and stuffed in a loose puck into the open side as a blast off the end boards bounced out in front.
Notching another, the Rock went up by a pair off a two-on-one when Travis Poan slammed in a rebound off a Jack Kelly attempt on Storm starter Matis Bureau-Morel.
Another man advantage effort made it 3-0 at 16:01 as Brant Romaniuk buried a crisp cross-crease feed from Lucas Lowe.
Still up a skater, Timmins tacked on another to cap off their early barrage after Ryan Armitage powered his way out of the right corner and roofed a shot from a sharp angle.
Moving to the middle frame, Iroquois Falls got on the board seven minutes in when Jordan Mayo made an impressive reverse pass from behind the net and out the other side where Remi Gendron snagged it and lifted a backhand past an unsuspecting Rock netminder Graham Gee.
A fourth extra-man marker saw Kelly bury a shot from the left circle as he finished off a Thomas Beard feed at 12:53 to put the Rock 5-1 after 40 minutes.
In the third, Timmins put the game away as defenceman Ethan Albert finished off an impressive individual rush from mid-ice as he cut around numerous defenders while driving to the net and taking it wide before beating Bureau-Morel.
Blasting it open, two more Rock blueliners, Ayden Trottier and Braedyn Cyr, clicked on backhands, which resulted in Storm backup Justin Sullivan coming in for the visitors.
They then saw Romaniuk notch his second of the contest on a nice deflection to finish off the one-sided result.
Both teams now head to the NOJHL Showcase in Sudbury Tuesday that will feature all 12 league teams taking part in the two-day event.
