While the Timmins Festivals and Events Committee (TFEC) is still crunching the numbers for this year’s Rock on the River, local non-profits are benefiting from the two-day music festival.
The group has donated more than $3,000 to three community groups.
The Northern Ontario Expo received a portion of the 50/50 draw for helping out with volunteers for the draw.
Project Love and the Timmins Family Counselling Centre received the donations from child entries. Members of the groups also assisted with the front gate.
“TFEC was pleased to have these other great local non-profits come on board for Rock On The River 2018. TFEC and Rock on the River are all about members of the community coming together to make things happen in Timmins. To have these groups working closely with us and our event it shows just how many people are willing to give their time investing in our City. TFEC, much like these groups, thrive on community support to make Timmins a better place to live,” said TFEC chair John Olaveson in a news release.
This year’s Rock on the River featured the biggest stage yet.
The headliners were Billy Talent and Walk off the Earth.
According to organizers, the third year of the festival saw “increased attendance, more vendors, more out of town visitors and an increase in community involvement.”
To raise money for the fourth edition of the festival, Rocktoberfest is being held Oct. 20.
Last year’s party sold out in less than 24 hours.
Tickets for this year’s event are on sale tomorrow (Sept. 26) at noon at timminsfestivals.com.
