Rock on the River starts today! Here's what you need to know

From the lineup to filling up with delicious local eats and everything in between, check out what's happening for the biggest music festival in the city

The biggest music festival in the city is back this weekend!

If you're heading out to Timmins Festival and Events Committee's (TFEC) Rock on the River Reconnect at Hollinger Park in Timmins, here's what you need to know. 

Show Times

Gates open Friday, July 21 at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, July 22 at 5 p.m.

Friday, July 21, local band Rosewood Ave kicks off the action at 6:20 p.m., The Recklaws are on at 7:20 p.m., The James Barker Band at 8:30 p.m., and Dallas Smith hits the stage at 10 p.m.

Saturday, Timmins' own Dopamine is on at 6:20 p.m. (it includes Rock on the River organizers John Olaveson and Jeremy Wilson), Crown Lands is on at 7:20 p.m., Default is at 8:30 p.m., and Papa Roach finishes off the festival with their set at 10 p.m.

Tickets 

The VIP section is sold out, but general admission passes can be bought at the gate while supplies last. Cash or debit will be accepted. Kids 12 and under are $20 each at the door only. They must be accompanied by an adult with a ticket for that day.

Getting there

There is no parking at the site. 

Shuttle buses are running to help people get home. To hop on, look for the school bus in the Hollinger Park parking lot on both nights. One will head east towards Schumacher, South Porcupine and Porcupine. There is also a westbound bus heading downtown, the Melrose area, and Mountjoy up to Kamiskotia Road. 

What to leave at home

You can bring in a purse, but it is subject to be searched. You are not allowed to bring in: chairs, cameras or recording devices (selfies are OK), no drugs or paraphernalia, backpacks, outside food or drink, objects deemed to be hazardous, or umbrellas. 

Free Zone

There will be free activities and a spotlight on local talent leading up to the main event on both days. 

Friday's family activities are:

  • 10 a.m. to noon - Wakeboarding (amateur all ages) at Gillies Lake
  • Noon to 3 p.m. - Wakeboarding (advanced amateur) at Gillies Lake 
  • 4-6 p.m. - Wakeboarding professional demonstration at Gillies Lake
  • Noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. - Foam party at the Hollinger Park splash pad

The artists on stage at the Hollinger Park pavilion are:

  • 11:30 a.m. - Robyn Thomson and Tyler Cropley 
  • 12:30 p.m. - Norm Thibeault
  • 1:30 p.m. - Northern Acoustics
  • 2:30 p.m.- Gabrielle Dampier and Kyle Cote 
  • 3:30 p.m. - Eric Girard 

Saturday's family activities are:

  • 11 a.m. - Move Yoga with Sylvie at the Hollinger Park pavilion 
  • 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. - Extreme stunt show at Hollinger Park 
  • Noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. - Foam party at the Hollinger Park splash pad 
  • 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon - SUP Yoga at Hersey Lake 
  • 1 to 3 p.m. - Wakeboarding professional qualifier at Gillies Lake 
  • 3 to 5 p.m. - Wakeboarding professional finals at Gillies Lake

  • 11:50 a.m. - Vern Cheechoo and Sarah Weistche 
  • 12:45 p.m. - Dan Dubeau
  • 1:50 p.m. - Steffy Rivard
  • 2:45 p.m. - Jenn Brunet and Charlie Power

Where to eat

Food vendors will be on-site! This year's delicious lineup includes Smokey Robinson, SubZilla and the Hollinger House Bakery and Deli.

Cashless Bar

For those who are 19 and up, the bar is going cashless and requires you to buy bar tokens with debit, credit or prepaid cards. Cash can still be used for food vendors, merch and 50/50.
