TIMMINS - A rescued dog is on the mend after at least six days on his own.
A team of five animal lovers rescued the black dog that had been roaming along Highway 655 for almost a week, and now they’re asking for help to get him the care he needs.
A GoFundMe has been set up to cover costs of the dog’s care. Paul Charles, one of the people who helped rescue the pup, said the response has been amazing.
“We’ve raised $1,400 so far, and our goal was $2,000,” he said. “I think there’s been around 1,000 hits on the first posting.”
The dog had an injury to one of his legs and his ears that shows he may have been attacked. He’s also on flea medication, but he’s expected to make a good recovery, said Charles.
“He’s pretty good,” said Charles.

He was rescued after being spotted for six days along Highway 655, near Timmins and District Hospital and near the snow dump in that area. Shawn Ouimette caught the dog on March 14 and has been caring for him since.
“He’s made a hotel in his garage for the dog right now,” said Charles.
As for the pup's fur-ever home, that hasn't been decided yet.
