TIMMINS - The much-talked about deal for a Timmins hotel has gone through.

Documents filed at the provincial land registry office show that the Cochrane District Services Board (CSDB) has officially purchased the Ramada Inn in the west end of Timmins.

Yesterday (Dec. 3), the ownership of 1800 Riverside Dr. transferred from a numbered company to the District of Cochrane Social Services Administration Board. The purchase price was $10 million, plus $1 million for chattels, which are furnishings and other items not permanently part of the building.

CAO Brian Marks and director of finance Angela Delaurier signed off on the deal, according to registry documents obtained by TimminsToday.

In September, the services board publicly announced its plans to buy the hotel for the proposed Wellness Centre of Excellence (WCE). The aim is to create centralized service hub offering primary care, addiction and mental health services, Indigenous-focused care, supportive housing with services, and life skill and employment training. It will not be an emergency shelter, offer harm reduction supplies or be a supervised consumption site.

For funding, the CDSB has applied to be one of the new Homelessness and Addiction Recovery Treatment (HART) hubs.

CDSB is the lead agency on the project, with other main partners including Mushkegowuk Council, the Timmins Academic Family Health Team, and the Cochrane Temiskaming Resource Centre (CTRC).
