TIMMINS - The sounds of engines and cheering crowds will fill Hollinger Park this weekend as Snowcross rides into town.
The Brent Secord Memorial Pro National competition event kicks off with practice runs on Friday, Jan. 17, and the main show on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 8 a.m. at Hollinger Park. This event covers rounds five and six of the Canadian Snowcross Racing Association (CSRA) season.
“It’s going to be one heck of a spectacle,” said Joe Bidinot, the event’s spokesperson.
Saturday night is the big event, with fireworks and finals for the racers. Bidinot said the show is not to be missed and will cap off with a five-minute display at the finish line.
“It’s full of flames and fire,” he said. “The whole race is going to be very intense.”
There are open practices at Hollinger Park all day on Friday and Sunday until 5:30 p.m., so anyone looking for a sneak peek can get one.
Races start on Saturday at 8 a.m. with racers in all categories and ages from four years old and up. The finals take place at 5:30 p.m.
“It’s all outdoors, so dress warm,” he said. “There’s just a lot going on, and it’s definitely worth the price of admission, that’s for sure.”
The pro racers will be on-site with posters and signing autographs, and pit passes are available for those who want to get a little closer to the snowmobiles.
Tickets for an individual day pass are $40 and $35 for seniors, and full weekend passes are $60 or $55 for seniors.
“We definitely put on a show,” he said.
