A once-popular bar has been issued a notice to tear the building down.
A City of Timmins notice on the Central Tavern, known as The Zoo, says the Bruce Street property is "to be cleared of all buildings, structures, debris or refuse and left in a graded and leveled condition."
"It has been determined that due to the water damage, foundation damage and pigeon infestation, the building is beyond repair," reads the order.
According to the notice, the building was inspected Sept. 13. The deadline for the required action to be done is Oct. 25.
In September, Timmins Coun. Noella Rinaldo asked for tougher bylaws on derelict buildings across the city.
Over the past few years, she said councillors have seen and been notified by residents about properties falling below city bylaw standards.
The order to tear down the Central Tavern isn't a direct result of that conversation.
Since that meeting, however, Timmins CAO Dave Landers said the city has been identifying derelict properties. For some, they're trying to come up with a plan to repurpose the buildings to put them back in use.
