SUDBURY - Royal, the Greater Sudbury Police Service dog, is back in service after ingesting fentanyl last week.
“After a couple days of the ‘royal’ treatment and some much-deserved R&R, Roy is feeling pawsome and ready to serve and protect our community,” GSPS posted on Facebook on Monday.
Royal was part of the execution of a search warrant on June 14, which involved detectives from the Integrated Crime Section, the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) and the Ontario Provincial Police-led Provincial Guns & Gangs Enforcement Team.
“During the execution of the search warrant, K9 Roy ingested fentanyl while searching a room,” GSPS said at the time.
“His handler immediately administered Narcan and rushed him to the veterinarian where he underwent precautionary tests. Thanks to the quick actions of his handler, Roy is expected to make a full recovery.”
Royal was born on Nov. 1, 2020, in Slovakia before being transported to the United States, where he was hand-selected by a group of K9 trainers. Roy loves long tracks in the bush, howling under the stars and his ball.
