The 2023 Sunshine List is out and the region's top doctor continues to be the highest earner. Northern College and Timmins and District Hospital have seen some of the biggest jumps in the number of staffers making the cut for the annual disclosure.
Each year, the province is required to release information on all public sector employees who were paid more than $100,000.
With hundreds of people from the Timmins area on the list, here are some of the top earners in 2023.
Porcupine Health Unit medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton made $347,503, about a 23 per cent decrease from the year before.
The number of people at the health unit on the list dropped to 10 in 2023 from 29 the year before. The total salaries paid out is $1.47 million, down from $3.6 million in 2022.
The other top-earning health unit staff are:
- Corporate services manager Rosa Montico-Reimer, $156,669
- Infectious Diseases and Clinical Services manager Lynn Leggett, $134,408
- Manager of Foundations and Chief Nursing Officer Chantal Riopel, $134,167
- Manager of Environmental Health Suzanne Lajoie, $133,408
- Manager of Health and Well-Being Guylaine Malette-Robichaud, $124,878
At the City of Timmins, which includes salaries for municipal staff, Timmins police and Timmins firefighters, 162 people are on the list, up from 148 in 2022.
In 2023, over $20.6 million was paid out in salaries to the people on the list. The year prior, the total was more than $18.25 million.
CAO Dave Landers is the highest-paid employee at the City of Timmins, making $235,415 in 2023.
Other top earners include:
- Former police chief Daniel Foy, $217,131
- Deputy police chief Henry Dacosta, $206,674
- Director of finance and treasurer Natalie Moore, $189,111
- Director public works and environmental Ken Krcel, $183,823
- Staff Sgt. Timothy Chalmers, $180,591

Timmins and District Hospital has broken the 200 mark.
In 2023, 226 people at the facility made more than $100,000. That's up 30 per cent from 2022 when 173 made the cut.
The top five earners there are:
- President and CEO Kate Fyfe, $285,163
- Vice president clinical/chief nursing officer Joan Ludwig, $193,241
- Golden Manor administrator Lia Fontana, $192,742
- Pharmacist Natalie Garwah, $186,793
- Pharmacist Natalie Roy, $185,443
At District School Board Ontario North East, there are 323 people on the list. That's up slightly from 2022, when there were 321.
The top earners are:
- Director of education Lesleigh Dye, $270,664
- Superintendent of schools Steven Pladzyk, $188,656
- Superintendent of business/finance Lisa Edwards, $173,069
- Superintendent of schools Chad Mowbray, $163,360
- Superintendent of human resources Alan Mclean, $166,868
At Northern College, the number has jumped to 99 in 2023 from 80 in 2022.
The top earner at the school was now-retired president and CEO Audrey Penner, who made $327,643, a significant increase from $261,911 the year prior.
The college's other top earners are:
- Acting president and CEO Michel Dumas, $207,862
- Chief cultural officer, marketing, communications and external relations Susan Hunter, $188,055
- Chief information officer and director of information technology Frederic Nickner, $181,962
- Dean of Science Douglas Clark, $178,245
- Deam of Community Services and Learning Innovation Dean Lessard, $167,222
The Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board (CDSSAB) is paid more than $6.2 million in wages for the 52 people on the list in 2023. It's up slightly from 2022, when 49 people made over $5.7 million.
The top earners there are:
- CAO Brian Marks, $212,963
- Director of finance Angela Delaurier, $171,334
- Director of health services Jean Carriere, $149,761
- Paramedic Roger Lapointe, $137,848
- Paramedic Bryan Kidd, $135,145
Timmins MPP and Minister of Mines George Pirie took home $182,436 in 2023.
