The health unit is warning people not to swim in Porcupine Lake.

Today, the Porcupine Health Unit issued a swimming advisory for the lake. During routine water testing, unacceptable levels of bacteria were indicated.

No swimming signs have been put up at the beach, says the health unit advisory.

Swimming in water with no swimming signs could cause an infection of the ear, eye, nose, throat or skin. If the water is ingested, it could cause diarrhea. More information on the health unit's testing of local lakes is available here.

The health unit will advise when the advisory is lifted.
