This story was originally published on June 15, we're running it again today for readers who may have missed it and as a reminder to join us tomorrow (June 18) for a coffee!

It’s been 10 years since Village Media took over the reins of TimminsToday

What a decade it’s been!

Delivering local news and information focused on our community is no small feat and we’re excited to celebrate our success story in the ever-changing landscape of Canadian media.

As a reporter and editor for more than two decades in Timmins and beyond, I was brought on board in 2017 as the first full-time editor. I’m grateful every day to pursue my passion for excellence in community journalism in my hometown and with Village Media — whose mission is to save local news and strengthen communities.

The success we’re celebrating at TimminsToday is not only due to our hard-working, dedicated team but to the community — our readers, community partners and advertisers — that has embraced our news site devoted to Timmins and beyond.

Back in 2014, TimminsToday was the third site added to Village Media's growing network, which now boasts 25 community news sites across Ontario.

Our local team has also grown. It includes two hard-working reporters, Amanda Rabski-McColl and Marissa Lentz, as well as dedicated, talented freelancers who tell compelling stories celebrating our community and its people, as well as raising awareness about issues. The goal is always the same: strengthening our community.

Amanda loves to tell stories about the diverse cultural roots of our area. She brings you news from the local school board table and shares unique stories of people past and present — like this interesting read showcasing a trap line manager’s journey’s in Northern Ontario decades ago.

Our newest team member, Marissa, has been bringing you news from communities along the Highway 11 corridor. Whether it’s talking about selling $10 lots in Cochrane or the dissolution of Matheson’s council and coverage of the ongoing byelection, she works to give a voice to under-served areas.

Thank you, Timmins, please join us for a celebration on Tuesday, June 18  at Aline’s Tea Shop, 105 Pine St. S.,  anytime from 10 a.m. to noon. The coffee is on us.
