Are you ready to reel in a big one?

To celebrate Canada Day, there's a free family week June 29-July 7. It means Ontario residents can drop a line in the water anywhere in the province without having to purchase a licence or carry an Outdoors Card.

“I welcome anyone curious about fishing to experience the excitement and satisfaction of this great sport firsthand,” said Graydon Smith, Minister of Natural Resources, in a news release.

“Wherever you are in Ontario – urban or rural – there are abundant opportunities to enjoy free fishing in celebration of Canada Day.”

Conservation catch limits and other regulations still apply. You can learn more about those here

While you don't need a licence to fish, people participating still must be carrying a government-issued identification showing their name and date of birth.
