Collège Boréal honoured the 2017 Graduates from its Timmins campus on Wednesday night at Theriault High School’s Auditorium Charles Fournier.

“Collège Boréal proudly recognizes the excellence of its graduates who have reached their goals through sacrifice and exceptional leadership,” said Collège Boréal President, Daniel Giroux.

“We would also like to thank our partners who have contributed, each in their own way, to the success of our students, past and present, and who will continue to do so for years to come,” he added.

The graduating class of 2017 is the 22nd in Collège Boréal’s history since it opened in 1995 to serve as a French language community college in 10 campus across Ontario.

“I am proud of all the graduating students,” said Keynote Speaker Dan Gagnon, the Manager of Primero Gold’s Black Fox Mine in Matheson, Ontario. “You have received the best education in your field in French, but you also have learned that being able to speak both of Canada’s official languages is a key to success.”

Gagnon then told of the experiences of his own children who speak both French and English equally proficient. The proficiency in languages today opens the possibility of employment around the world.

Gagnon’s son works in the United States, for example, without the ability to speak English, in addition to his mother tongue of French, the opportunity in the United States would never have arisen.

Earlier in the week Goldcorp announced a $30,000 contribution to Collège Boréal’s Timmins campus.

Funds will be used to purchase specialized kitchen equipment and help organize gourmet events known as 'Bistro Boréal'

Collège Boréal was established in 1995 as a French language post-secondary school for the Ontario French speaking communities.

The school provides a wide variety of programs and services in six campuses and 37 access centres in 25 communities across the province.

Since 1995, approximately 120,000 clients across Ontario have benefited from College Boréal’s expertise relating to post-secondary education, training programs, immigration and settlement services, as well as employment services.

According to information provided on Collège Boréal’s web site, key performance Indicators recognized by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development, rank Collège Boréal number one in three out of the five areas surveyed.

Also, according to its own website, out of 24 Ontario community colleges, Boréal has the highest student satisfaction rate, graduation rate, and graduate satisfaction rate in the province. An employer satisfaction survey, gave Boréal, a 96 percent satisfaction rate. That ranks 3rd out of all 24 colleges in employer satisfaction.
