Things are about to get muddy (5 photos)

The Canadian Cancer Society tells us that approximately 30 percent of all Canadians will develop some form of cancer in their lifetime.

They also tell us that leading an active lifestyle is one way to help reduce the risks of cancer.

With this thought in mind, Discover Fitness has teamed up with Kamiskotia Snow Resort to host the Muddy Mountain Mixer this Saturday in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.

Described as a five-kilometre obstacle race, the event is going to be similar to the larger Tough Mudder or Spartan Race events with the course traversing throughout the Kamiskotia ski hills.

The event starts at 11 a.m. and continues until 8 p.m. or until all registered participants have completed the course, whichever comes first.

There will also be an after party in the Kamiskotia lodge and all participants over the age of 19 are invited.

Registration for the event costs $40.00 and tickets for the after party are $25 in advance or $35 at the door.

Anyone who wishes to help fund the Canadian Cancer Society by running the Muddy Mountain Mixer can register online at www.cancer.ca by following the “Get Involved” link, clicking on “Find an Event Near You” and entering “Timmins” in the search box.

Event organizers are also accepting on site registrations the day of the event.

Tickets for the after party are available at the Canadian Cancer Society Office (Corner or Third Ave.  and Spruce St S.), Northern Swing Golf Centre (239 Wilson Avenue - across from Shopper’s) or online at www.kamiskotia.com

To ensure that everyone arrives home safely after the after party, tickets include shuttle bus service from the Porcupine Mall at 8:15 p.m. and the Holiday Inn Express at 8:30 p.m.

The shuttle will depart from Kamiskotia Snow Resort at 1:30 a.m. to return to both pickup locations.

If you were ever thinking of running an off road, mud-filled obstacle course, now is the time to kill the hill and support a great cause.

With the many volunteers and sponsors that have been working for months to put this event together, it’s sure to be a hit…or a craw…or a hard slide down a muddy hill and then over a tall obstacle at the bottom.
