Thousands without power in Timmins area after severe storm

Thousands of people in Timmins are without hydro after a severe thunderstorm moved through this afternoon. 

The Hydro One outage map currently shows multiple outages impacting thousands of customers across the city from Mountjoy to Connaught. 

The estimated time for the power to be back is 6:15 p.m. for Timmins proper and the South Porcupine and Porcupine areas. Further east, in the Connaught area, the estimated time for restoration is 6:30 p.m.

Environment Canada issued multiple tornado warnings for the Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls areas this afternoon.

Downtown Timmins around 3:20 p.m., the weather eased up but the storm was heading to the east end of the city in the Kettle Lakes Provincial Park area.

At 3:27 p.m., Environment Canada reissued an alert to say the tornado warning continues for the areas of Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls.
