TIMMINS - With a federal election expected to be called today, the Liberals have a candidate.
Former Timmins mayor and current councillor Steve Black is running for the Liberals in the new riding of Kapuskasing-Timmins-Mushkegowuk.
"This is a critical election for Canada, our economy, and our unity as a country and as such after many discussions with family, supporters and team members I have decided to join Team Carney," he shared on Facebook on Saturday.
Black ran for the Liberals in the last federal election in 2021, which saw NDP Charlie Angus re-elected for his seventh-straight win.
The upcoming election will the first for the new riding of Kapuskasing-Timmins-Mushkegowuk.
The other candidates so far are NDP Nicole Fortier-Levesque and Conservative Gaetan Malette.
Prime Minister Mark Carney is meeting with Governor General Mary Simon this morning to dissolve Parliament and call an election, which is expected to be on April 28.
