TIMMINS – A couple of Kaeden McArthur markers was part of a four-goal first period outburst as the Timmins Rock went on to roll past the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 9-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Thursday at McIntyre Arena.
The Rock needed just a half-minute to get on the board after Lucas Lowe won a draw back to McArthur, who powered his way to the slot and whipped a shot past Gold Miners’ starter Matis Bureau-Morel.
Tacking on another, moments into a power play, Timmins worked a play around nicely that led to Alexis Tremblay neatly redirecting in a Thomas Beard pass at 12:31.
A two-man advantage saw the home side go up by three when McArthur wired one in from the right circle for his second of the stanza.
The Rock then took a 4-0 lead into the first intermission when recently acquired forward Clark Scaddan picked up his first NOJHL goal by using a toe-drag then sliding his chance through the legs of Bureau-Morel from the side.
Continuing the onslaught, Lowe stuffed in a loose puck just 10 seconds into the middle stanza to put the hosts up by five.
Timmins then chased Bureau-Morel three minutes later with Reece Liu putting one upstairs.
The change in net saw Kael Moberg come in for the visitors to go the rest of the way in relief.
Getting one back while up a skater, Tyler Corbett tipped in a Jean-Felix Racine point shot past Rock netminder Dryden Riley.
Henry McLellan then made it 7-1 deep in the frame when he guided in a Tenzin Nyman attempt from the right point, that got by Moberg.
Finishing it off in the final frame, a couple more extra-man efforts, coming off the sticks of Dawson Boily, with his initial NOJHL tally, and McLellan’s second of the evening wrapped up the one-sided result.
The victory was the 44th straight triumph for the Rock over the Gold Miners, continuing a run dating back to November of 2018 while improving to 9-4-0-0 in league play this season.
With the loss, Kirkland Lake fell to 1-12-0-2 on the campaign.
