TIMMINS - A local curling team earned silver on home ice.

The McIntyre Curling Club hosted the U18 Ontario Curling Championships Jan. 15-19. Three local teams — Team Bergounhon, Team Chilton and Team Morris — competed.

Team Chilton played against Thunder Bay's Team Dubinsky in the championship game on Sunday, with the out-of-town team securing the gold with an 11-0 win. The win puts them into the U18 nationals next month.

The local rink placed second in the round-robin with a record of five wins and two losses. That put them into the semi-finals on Sunday morning where they won 5-4 against Team Wright from Thunder Bay.

Team Bergounhon placed seventh in the round-robin for the girls. In the boys' division, Team Morris was fifth.
