TIMMINS - With up to 30 centimetres of snow on the way, the city has declared a significant weather event.
The City of Timmins declaration starts at 2 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5.
"Due to the winter storm warning issued by Environment Canada and modeling with the amount of snow forecasted, we are anticipating delays in the plowing of some city streets and roads along with most city sidewalks. City resources will be deployed when deemed appropriate," reads the notice.
The weather may also impact Timmins Transit and may result in delays and/or cancellations.
A winter storm warning is in effect for Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls.
Environment Canada expects it will start tonight (March 4) and last into Thursday.
Twenty to 30 centimetres of snow is expected, with peak snowfall rates of two to four centimetres per hour. There will be poor visibility with the heavy snow and local blowing snow.
"Travel is expected to be very difficult. Road closures are likely," reads the Environment Canada notice.
"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
"Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve."
