Four Timmins firefighters have been awarded a provincial medal.
Firefighters Steve Galarneau, Greg Janiuk and Travis Tulloch, and Captain William McCord recently picked up the Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery, which is the province's highest recognition for firefighters who demonstrate bravery in the line of duty.
The local recipients were awarded the medals in council chambers at city hall last week.
"The medals stem from an act of bravery on October 24, 2018, while battling a fire at the Good Samaritan Inn in South Porcupine, where a heroic rescue of a resident took place. The four men sacrificed their own safety to save a complete stranger in distress. While the resident spent some time in the hospital following the incident, his life was saved by these four heroes," explained the City of Timmins in a Facebook post.
