TIMMINS - With a new reservoir needed in the east end, the City of Timmins wants to hear from residents about where it should be located.
The Tisdale water storage reservoir is currently located about four kilometres down Langmuir Road and is filled by two trunk watermains from the Timmins Water Filtration Plant.
Because its infrastructure is ageing, it's in a remote location and near expanding mining hazards, the city hired WSP Canada in April for the design and construction contract administration contract. It's worth $1.1 million.
"The plan is to provide a new water storage reservoir that will supply safe and reliable drinking water, and assist the City in planning for future growth and increased demand on the City’s water distribution system," reads a City of Timmins news release.
Five proposed locations for the new reservoir are:
- Near Walter Lane on Connaught Hill
- Crawford Street north of Highway 101. The map shows the site on the west side of the road.
- The west end of Ferguson Road near Davidson Road.
- Highway 101 east of Bob's Lake.
- Gold Mine Road.
With potential sites identified, the second phase of the project includes community input.
A virtual public information centre has been recorded to help people understand the process.
Feedback is being received until Nov. 14.
The survey is available here. Read more about the project here.
