TIMMINS - With up to 10 centimetres of snow expected today, the city is prepping to clear the roads overnight.
A Timmins-wide snowplowing operation starts just after midnight, at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday (Dec. 10).
"Crews will be deployed to plow city streets, rural roads, laneways and parking lots across the city. Some areas may not be plowed overnight and will be plowed during the daytime hours," reads the city's notice.
A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls.
Between five to 10 centimetres of snow is expected.
"Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly," reads the Environment Canada advisory.
"Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance."
In Timmins, a winter parking ban is in effect until April 30.
Vehicles parked on the street, boulevard or city-owned parking lots between 11:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. will be subject to a $50 fine. If it's not paid within three days the fine increases to $75. The vehicle may also be towed at the expense of the owner. Streets exempt from the ban have signs indicating it.
