Lock it or lose it takes on a whole new meaning after an incident Monday morning that was caught on video.
Timmins Police say a car owner called them after a bear got into the vehicle and couldn't get out.
Police had this to say about it on Facebook:
Some calls you have to see to believe. Luckily one of our officers captured video of this particular call — proof that being a police officer in Northern Ontario means dealing with more than just the human population!
Police received a call in the early morning hours of June 12, regarding a bear trapped inside a vehicle. The vehicle owner reported that after entering the vehicle, the bear became trapped inside when the door closed on the animal. The vehicle's interior sustained extensive damage.
Police officers attended and opened the door, allowing the bear to exit the vehicle. Police were then able to move the animal along safely to the bush line.
Our "Lock it or Lose it" messaging may no longer apply only to would-be thieves looking to take valuables — but also to curious and hungry bears looking for a quick meal. (The video will also serve as a reminder to remove all attractants from both vehicles, and from the outside of your residence).
And the video:
Mason Charbonneau, whose grandmother owns the car, thanked police on Facebook:
Bear broke into a locked car and completely totalled it. Thank you to the TPS who got the bear out of the car! There was no food in the car either!
