Timmins police welcome two new special constables

Their duties will include court security, crime scene management, crowd control, prisoner escorts, and other responsibilities

The Timmins Police Service has sought out and recruited two new Special Constable candidates who are completing their training under the tutelage of Const. Turner and Sgt Delich. A comprehensive academic and procedural training package along with a rigorous physical component make up this week’s training syllabus for these newly minted Special Constables.

The Timmins Police Service welcomes Jessica Spence and Andrew Rivest to the Special Constables complement. Their duties encompass court security, crime scene management, crowd control, prisoner escorts and a host of other duties and responsibilities.

Jessica Spence is s 29-year-old Timmins resident who graduated from O’Gorman High School who pursued a successful post-secondary education at Nipissing University/Canadore College. She was a heavy equipment operator who was part of the Timmins Police – Auxiliary Unit. That exposure ignited an interest in serving her community in terms of serving with the Timmins Police Service on a full-time basis. She is an avid Raptors fan and years ago served with distinction as an OPP Marine student with the South Porcupine detachment.

Andrew Rivest is a 21-year-old young man from Rouyn-Noranda who graduated from his home town high school and went on to pursue post-secondary education at Northern College where he set himself apart academically in the field of Police Foundations. He honed his skills by taking an active role in site security as “Resident Assistant” at the Northern College residence, as well as a scenario facilitator with the Police Foundations Program. He has always possessed a strong and unwavering interest in serving the community in terms of serving with the Timmins Police Service on a full-time basis. He is a misguided Montreal Canadiens fan and remains devoted to physical fitness with a dedicated regime that includes logging many hours in the gym.

The Timmins Police Service Senior Administration gladly welcomes these fine additions to the Timmins Police Service team of professionals.
