TIMMINS - The local pool has been tapped for more accessible upgrades.

The City of Timmins is one of 20 municipalities getting cash from the province's Inclusive Community Grants Program.

The $39,728 is to add automatic door openers and accessible shower buttons in the change rooms, and an adult change table and patient lift in the family/accessible change room.

The work has not been done yet, and the city is hoping to have it done while the pool is closed for repairs.

"The final project cost is pending approval from Purchasing, but we are anticipating that the funding amount will cover all upgrades," said Amanda Dyer, Timmins' corporate communications co-ordinator.

Earlier this year, a pool lift to help lower people into and out of the water was reinstalled at the pool.

The pool at the Sportsplex has been closed since Sept. 9 because of mechanical issues. It's expected to stay shuttered for another four to six weeks.

N. Lacroix Plumbing and Heating has been awarded a $316,496 contract to supply and install a boiler system and water heating coil.
