TIMMINS - The Catholic school board was affected by the "cyber incident" that impacted school boards across North America.
The Northeastern Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) uses PowerSchool, which experienced a data breach from Dec. 22-28, 2024. The tech company notified the local board about the incident on Tuesday (Jan. 7).
"Our team promptly activated our response plan, taking immediate steps to ensure that our critical systems remain operational," wrote NCDSB director of education Tricia Stefanic Weltz in a letter to families today (Jan. 9).
The board is working with the company to do a thorough investigation and the exact information of what may have been accessed or exported from the application is not known.
"PowerSchool has informed us that it has received confirmation that the data accessed by an unauthorized user has been deleted and that no copies of this data were posted online," she wrote.
"When we determine what personal information has been impacted, we will let you know as soon as possible."
