The City of Timmins is receiving a slight increase in its share of provincial gas tax cash this year.
For 2020-21, Timmins will receive $668,033. That's just over $15,000 more than the city received for 2019-20 when its portion was $652,760.
The money will flow to the 109 municipalities eligible for the program as soon as possible in 2021, according to the provincial announcement.
"Our government is committed to helping municipalities sustain and improve public transit throughout the province," said Caroline Mulroney, Minister of Transportation, in a news release.
"Supporting transit systems is more important than ever as municipalities across Ontario struggle during the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding will help ensure people have access to safe, reliable transportation to get to work or pick up essential items like a prescription."
Gas Tax program funding is determined by how many litres of gasoline were sold in the province the previous year. It's distributed to municipalities with public transit services and can be used to extend service hours, buy transit vehicles, add routes, improve accessibility or upgrade infrastructure, according to the announcement.
